In 2013 the Government announced that it was to provide additional funding of £150 million per annum for each of the academic years 2013-2014, 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools in England. This funding was to be known as The Primary PE & Sport Premium. The funding has continued to be provided on an annual basis.

This funding is allocated directly to primary headteachers. The funding is ring fenced and therefore can only be spent on the provision of PE and sport in schools. The Premium has to be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of primary-aged pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active life styles. School has the freedom to choose how it spends the funding.

Our Primary PE and Sport Premium funding is being spent with the continued focus on ensuring that any improvements are sustainable. Currently, 44% of our Year 6 cohort can swim 25m: this percentage has been negatively impacted as they were a year group who missed out on lessons due to COVID. 44% of our Year 6 cohort can also swim using a range of techniques. 8% are able to perform a safe 'self' rescue.
