Reading and Phonics

In the Nursery we focus on Phase One phonics from Letters and Sounds. We focus on early speaking and listening skills, ensuring the speech and language of individuals and groups of children is developed appropriately. 

In Reception and Key Stage One we teach phonics using ‘Floppy's Phonics’ - a systematic, synthetic phonics scheme.  See here for more information:

Throughout the school we use the Oxford Reading Tree and Project X reading schemes. 

There is a clear and systematic approach to the teaching and learning of phonics, reading, writing and spelling throughout the school.
